there is a box at the bottom towards the right which looks burnt on the right side. Is this why my tv won’t switch on? Is it replaceable? When the tv switched off there was no bang/sound/smell and therefore I don’t think it was this. Could it just be the fuse?

Yep. That’s a transformer. Blown up. You can replace the entire power supply board. Look for it on eBay with your TV model or a number part that’s somewhere in the power supply itself. I cannot see any number part from your picture.
