Getting a blank screen when I select system settings.

Just switched my 3ds on for this first time in a few years. Thought I'd check for a software update but when I select “system settings” I get a blank screen. I left it for a while but nothing happens. So I long pressed the power button to turn of and tried again. However the same think happend.

May be try this

The recovery mode (also known as Safe Mode Boot) can be accessed when turning on the Nintendo 3DS while holding A+R+L+Up(DPad). This menu is made to update your Nintendo 3DS through internet, if an update previously failed.

However it is possible to use this menu to delete the nagging update message if your console downloaded an update while in sleep mode. It is believed that this menu simply erases all update data, as it should normally be accessed when the update files are corrupted.

That worked. Thank you so much. I had tried the safe mode previously but was using the stick as my up command.

Downloaded update and when it switched back on I could get to the system settings ok. Thanks :-)

How do I open the safe mode? It keeps opening me camera even tho I use all the 4 buttons?

@Fulcrum You have to turn off your 3DS and press the buttons while the 3DS is booting up.
