My HDD is not detected. I want to recover data that's in it.

Hi,

I had a laptop on which I had stored some very important document. The laptop’s HDD failed and I cannot access the files no more.

The HDD is Fujitsu FKL-MHZ2320BH G2.

I have a SATA reader to USB cable. I have tested the cable with another internal Laptop HDD and it works fine. But when I try to plug in that failed HDD, my Linux machine doesn’t even detect it. No output to the following commands: lsusb, lshw, lspci.

But the HDD makes rattling noise and the lights on my SATA reader casing displays show everything is normal.

Please tell me if I can I fix it with software? Or is the hardware damaged, that will need professional help? The data is sensitive and I’d like to recover it myself if I can. If so, please tell me how. Thank you.

If you want the data, stop trying it yourself.

Each time you try to power on a broken hard drive, you diminish your chances of getting the data back and certainly drive up the cost of data recovery.

Data recovery needs professional equipment and skills. I won’t tell you how, because if you need to ask, you can’t do it now and you will destroy the data.

Go ask professional data recovery services.
