Did I break my iPhone home button connector?

Block Image

Block Image

I’m replacing the display on my iPhone 7 and I got to the step where I was reattaching the old home button onto the new display. I must not have aligned the pins correctly when I pushed down because I couldn’t get them to connect and now I think the pins are bent (see photos). Is there still a way I can fix these pins and get the cable connected? Right now I can’t get this cable to snap together.

Hello Grant,

The ends of the connector on the screen connector look pretty mangled - I have seen people online use a plastic spudger push pins back but that looks mainly to be the side plate of the actual connector, and to be pushed in. This flex is also a part of the screen assembly, so you would probably need a new screen if damaged.

lets see what others have to say, but maybe if push comes to shove try using a plastic spudger (not metal) to gently push back the metal side of the connector, but I would suspect that the connector looks pretty mangled. Be careful if you try connecting the home button connector not to damage the actual home button, as it is pared to the iPhones logic board.

hope this helps (:

Thanks for suggestion. I'm working with a plastic spludger now to see what I can do with adjusting these pins. I haven't given up yet!

Yeah, I tried to push those pins back and it just wasn’t working. My old screen was cracked, but still functional, so I put it back together with the broken screen and the ribbon connected just fine… until I turned the phone back on… and I think I busted something on that ribbon because the button isn’t working. I opened up accessibility and turned on AssistiveTouch so I have a software home button to use instead. Seems like a good workaround. I’m now going to try putting the new screen back on and just live without a working home button.
