MacBook Pro battery replacement: is it a Hardware or software issue?
Hi everyone!
I just changed my battery on a MBP mid 2015 and it worked great for a week or so, but then it started freezing up and not restarting properly: it “feels” like the computer is overheating and locking itself up
I have tried SMC reset and PRAM reset and still, the computer freezes up (like if I pause a video on Youtube.)
I get different panic reports everytime,( which I can’t understand anyways) and sometimes the machine runs great for a while, or even a day, then it freezes (it seems to happen at startup. I then restart, get the panic report, and then it seems to work for a few hours) - but I’m afraid to do any serious work on it in case it just freezes…
I know this isn’t much information to go on, but Apple store said I had a logic board water damage, which seems unlikely (It really looked pristine when I opened up the computer to change the battery, no dust mites, no residues) but maybe?
Diagnoastic said I had a PPT 004 battery requires service on the new battery, so iFixit sent me a new one - I will install it and try again.
Also, maybe the heatsink paste needs replacing and that is causing the overheating freeze? I can attempt that
Do I need to completely remove the logic board and give it a stern looking at?
can anyone help me identify what the actual issue might be? I mean, what is the process to rule out the problem? do I need to re-install IOS after I change the battery? how can I determine if there actually is any water damage and what that damage is?
Thank you very much for any guidance
