Screen touches on its own.

The left side of the tablet (portrait) touches itself without anything touching it. I turned on Show Taps and saw 6-7 marks showing it’s getting touches from there. Also typing seems hard to press.

Update (10/28/2020)

SM-T387T is the model number

Hi @roeldocto ,

Seems to be a ghost touching problem with the digitizer (touchscreen).

You may have to replace the digitizer.

Gekozen oplossing

Hi @roeldocto ,

As I suggested you may have a digitizer problem and it has to be replaced as it cannot be repaired.

Here’s a link to a supplier of the part. It is only shown to give you an idea of the cost of the part and what it looks like. There are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for SM-T387T digitizer.

I couldn’t find a repair video for the digitizer replacement but here’s a video for the screen replacement for a same series tablet which may help.

If doing this yourself seems too daunting, contact a reputable, professional mobile phone repair service and ask for a quote to replace the digitizer.

Btw, @jayeff . Do you know a reason why this happened?

@roeldocto

There may be a couple of reasons for this to occur

A dirty touchscreen - have you tried cleaning it with an appropriate cleaner -examples only There are a lot more on the web but generally getting products specifically designed to clean screens and not just general cleaning products is best. Use only a moist cloth to gently clean - not scrub and do not use cloth dripping wet or spray cleaner liberally on the screen. Moisten the cloth and then gently wipe. Microfibre cloths seem to work OK. Remember only moist, not too wet and be gentle. Also turn off the device when cleaning

Breakdown between the layers in the touchscreen itself, (see Resistive or Capacitive as not sure which one is in your tablet). You may notice that it can happen only in certain parts of the screen and not other sections.

Usually though it is the touchscreen as most people keep their screens reasonably clean.

Don't know why it happens. Just a guess if it is a breakdown in the layers it may depend on how often you use a certain area of the screen and how forceful your touch. Constant hard pressing in one area and eventually something may give. Not saying that you do this but it is not that unusual for ghost touching to occur or that certain areas of the touchscreen fail to register a touch. I have two devices, a phone and a tablet and it has happened on the tablet which I use less often than the phone and I like to think that I use them and look after them the same way
