Sony XBR-75X850E No video, audio works, backlight works

I've got a fun one… I’ve factory reset the tv (power + volume down) and when powering on I can hear the setup music. Tv dims and gets brighter when pressing buttons but there is no video, just backlight. Usually when turning it on after plugging it in it will only stay on for 5 sec then turn off and flash red 5x. Hitting the power button to turn on again will result in tv staying on but still no video.

I have replacement boards for the video board, power board, and t con. I have swapped all in and out 1 at a time and nothing seems to resolve the issue. It’s possible parts are bad but unlikely imo. Nothing get’s worse, its the same each time. Could it be another board somewhere else in the tv?

I contacted sony support but they were unable to send me the link to the service manual (could not find a link that would work for me outside of their network) and diagnosed as likely a faulty "G” board but were unable to tell me which that may be (seems to be power from a little googling)

I’ve read through a ton of things on here for others tvs but nothing has helped me pin down the issue unfortunately. Tcon board fuse has continuity and meters 12.7vdc when powered on. I tested original power board voltages (cannot remember what they were) but will gladly do so again if anyone knows what to check?

I assume the tcon feeds a board for each half of the display, seems weird if those boards both went bad somehow.

Appreciate any suggestions or help!!!

Hi @dossauce

According to the service manual a 5 blink error code can be the G board or the B board or worst case the panel itself.

Here’s the relevant section from the manual showing the 5 blink troubleshooting flowchart

Since you have already checked the voltage on the tcon and it is OK then follow the flowchart further on and check the cables, connections, B board etc.

On p.207 it details the requirements for when the B board is changed.

Hopefully a start

Thanks! Appreciate the manual. I will take a look and see although when I swapped the boards I never got the green/amber light but also never got video so I’m not sure if the flow on p.207 will work.

I don’t have replacement cables but wondering if I can cont. test the ones I have?

@dossauce

My understanding with the flowchart on p.207 is if the B board has been replaced and needs to be updated and also matched to where it will be operating

If you have a DMM (digital multimeter) use its Ohmmeter function to test each wire in the cables for continuity from end to end. Do this with the cables disconnected at each end.

Also check by slightly flexing the cable to make sure that the wires aren't fractured and continuity is lost.

Check the cable connectors/plugs? for signs of corrosion as well as this can make for a resistive connection when plugged in
