Possible to re-assemble with damaged force touch?

No surprise, I’ve damaged my force touch gasket while replacing the battery on my 44MM series 4 watch. The watch has been dead since before WatchOS 7 so is still on the last major release. Any thoughts on whether the device could be re-assembled with a damaged Force Touch gasket and will operate enough to install a new OS since the feature is disabled?

The easiest way to test this is to put the screen back on. Leave it lose and don't glue it down. Turning the watch back on without the screen being glued down won't damage the watch. Force touch gasket costs about 2 quid and as far as I know the watch won't properly function without it

The device can be assembled without the force touch gasket, however you will lose the force touch functionality
