MacBook overheating after replacing thermal paste.

Block Image

I replaced the thermal paste on my laptop, and it overheated quite intensely. It hardly booted up. I assumed I didn’t cover the cpu fully, but I did as you can see in the attached photo of my thermal pasting job. I didn’t have the back cover on when I tried to boot it up, but I can’t imagine that’s the problem. Can someone help me, I need this laptop functional for school tomorrow.

Gekozen oplossing

In the photo, it looks like you have used too much thermal paste.

The purpose of the paste is to just increase the contact area by filling in microscopic pits on the surface of the CPU and the heat sink.

You just want a thin layer of paste. If you use too much the CPU and heat sink will not be in proper contact with each other. That would explain your over heating.
