Why is my trackpad crackling?

I've got a MBP 15 mid 2015 and its trackpad makes a clicking noise right before the "right clicking sound" when I press it in the upper right part. https://youtu.be/PhqEO0kNGSU I work in a rather silent room and every time I hear this click it drives me crazy. It appears even when the macbook is turned off and the trackpad's supposed to be not clicking at all - but touching it may cause this crackle again. It happens not every time I click the trackpad - it could be gone for an hour after a couple of checking clicks but eventually it returns. It always returns. Resetting smc, cleaning with a paper corner or with compressed air, tightening or untightening the lid screws - none of this helped. We don't have any apple authorised repairs in the town, but even if we had one, they'd laugh in my face because this problem surely would never occur while trying to demonstrate it. Other than that the trackpad is working fine, and this laptop is clean as far as I can see and has never been damaged - it's in mint condition. Am I doomed to listen to this occasional crackle?

At this point I can only guess as I have not seen this before! Your trackpad is different than the older ones which use a hinge design where the top edge is the hinge and the bottom offers a blister switch for the click. Here the touch surface is sensitive the the action. I’m thinking the touch surface is damaged some how.

So you’ll need to replace the MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Trackpad and I would replace the MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Trackpad Cable as well. Here’s the guide you’ll want to follow MacBook Pro 13" Retina-scherm uit begin 2015 Vervanging van het trackpad we don’t have one for the 15” but this one should given you the needed steps.

I also have this annoying problem, but I’m using 2015 13” Macbook pro also in mint condition. I don't think it's any mechanical damage. My guess is that the trackpad is touching the battery, and it's making a sound. On my Macbook, this sound is also only heard on the right side of the trackpad. My battery has 150 cycles, and is original from purchase. It's possible that it's getting spicy.

@svenisko - Well the battery does appear to be reasonable! But I bet one of the middle cells has become swollen so it has deformed the metal plate covering the trackpad space. Think how a canning lid works! When the vacuum is lost it will pop when you press the center!

So replacing the battery will likely be needed here and the metal plate covering the trackpad will need to be checked.
