Wifi not connecting but they are there still?

I have a laptop, nothing is wrong with it besides the fact it can’t connect to the wifi. It has all wifi parts in the device manager and when I trouble shoot all it says is “ No preferred network “ or whatever but I can’t even do that cuz I can’t connect at all so I can’t get one of those. All the wifi is on 1 bar and the internet is fine on all other devices in the house besides this one.

This is what it shows when I try to connect then it goes right back to the not being connected symbol

Can someone send me an update version of the driver? My WIFI connection on “Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Adapter” has been on and off constantly and it’s really frustrating..

I have fixed it, I had to reinstall the adapter for it so I feel like silly for being stuck on this for so long lmao, I had the realtek rtl8821ce 802.11ac pcie adapter and for some reason it was just bugged and reinstalling it was a simple fix. I had to use a USB to transfer the download though because pfft no wifi. Here is the link to the site if anyone else has this problem and has the same adapter and wants to see if this helps.

Hi @mandyful

What is the model number of the laptop?

Sometimes manufacturers modify the drivers to suit their particular model needs.

As can be seen from this link the WLAN adapter manufacturer's drivers are from 2017.

This link however has links to later drivers for the WLAN adapter from HP and also Microsoft.

As always when downloading software manually, scan them for any viruses etc before installing ;-)

Hi,

What is the model number of the laptop and what OS is installed?

Some things to try to see if the problem can be narrowed down or resolved:

a. Try resetting the TCP/IP network stack and check if that resolves the problem.

If Win 10 is the OS, in the search box on the taskbar (click Start), type command prompt, right-click the command prompt result and then select Run as administrator and confirm.

In the Command window type the following commands one at a time and press Enter after each command and wait for a response before entering the next command. Yes there is a space between the words and the / character but not between the / character and the next word. If you make a typing error use the backspace key and retype the word or letter etc. Some of the commands may take a little while for a response and do not restart the laptop until all the commands have been entered (even if a response says to do it)

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter key.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter key.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter key.

Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter key.

Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter key.

Close the Command window and restart the laptop in the normal manner and check if the problem is still there.

b. Try using the laptop in safe mode with networking and check if the connection can be achieved. If it does a 3rd party program may be causing the problem. Check what programs are loaded when starting the laptop. In normal mode right click on the Taskbar and select Task manager > Startup to view what programs are being loaded when starting the laptop and check if they are necessary or not. Some may be for correct operation so be careful. Check online what the program is for if you’re not sure. If you think that it may be a problem, right click on a program in Startup and select “disable’ and then restart the laptop and check the WiFi. If still no good right click on the program again in Startup and select enable to restore it again etc

c. Try using the laptop as close as possible to the router to check if the connection can be achieved and that it is stable. If so it may be an antenna problem in the laptop.

I was trying to do the things you've said and it said that the media disconnected for the wifi? Is there anything I can do to fix that? I have already tried one command prompt thing for it but that didn't help at all

@DisasterLesbian

Not sure what you mean by "media disconnected"

What is the status of the WiFi adapter in Device Manager? Does it say that "this device is working properly"? Check in Device Manager > Network Adapters > right click WiFi adapter entry > Properties > General tab > Device Status box

What is the model number of the laptop? should be printed on the information label under the laptop)
