Home button not working even with new screen/new home button

Hi!

I have an iphone 7 that I replaced the battery in, removing the screen in the process. When I put it back together the home button didn’t work, not just touch ID but not even working as a button, so I tried the old home button with a new screen, getting the same result. I then tried a new universal home button with the old screen, and also with the new screen, same thing. My only conclusion is that the flex cable connectors are bad on the logic board and that there’s nothing more I can do, being a lowly repair technician with no microsoldering skills. Do you fellow nerds concur or is there some magical fix I haven’t thought of?

If I remember correctly. iPhone 7 and up has the home button paired to the device. So if you damage the cable to the original home button, you are screwed. If this is to be correct, I think the only way to get a new working home button is by having apple fix it.

Except that my very own phone, an iphone 7 plus, I also replaced the home button with a universal one. While it has its quirks, it definitely works as intended, just no touch ID. I got them from Mobile Defenders, though I believe iFixit has them available too.

Also no flex cable appears to be torn or kinked in any way. I know through painful experience what that looks like.

I guess it could be that I got a bum button.

Oh yeah you are right. Only the touch id function will not work with a new flex cable. So if you have tried a new cable, and that did not work. I can only, think of one other thing. That would be the connector itself being damaged somehow.

Or you have a damage home button flex cable that runs under the new screen, have you a other screen that you know is good to verify that the flex is still good of the screen that you are try to instal?
