My screen lights up but there is no display.

I accidentally dropped my tablet on the floor and it hit the back of the tablet. I tried to turn it off and on but there was no display. I could tell that the screen would light up a bit but nothing happened and there was no display or pictures. I could hear the restart sounds and other sounds and I could type in my password through muscle memory and do other things with it but I could not see anything. I don’t really want to go out and buy products or purchase them online. I have some limited tools at home so I was wondering if there was any way I could fix it at home without needing to purchase any tools. I have a feeling that the problem and I might have snapped it. (Note: I will keep this question up in case anyone else has the same problem)

Hi @czou,

From your description the touchscreen is working but not the LCD screen.

You would need some tools that are appropriate enough to use to open the tablet so that it can be checked for any obvious damage to the systemboard. Hopefully it may just be a loose LCD flex cable connection on the systemboard.

Here are the ifixit Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 guides, which may be of some help in showing how to open the tablet so that it can be inspected.

If the systemboard appears to be OK (no cracks, loose components etc) and the LCD flex cable systemboard connection appears to be secure then most probably the problem is in the LCD screen. Although as a DIY repair all you can do is to temporarily replace the LCD screen to check if the problem was the screen or if it is in the systemboard if nothing is obviously damaged

Faulty LCD screens cannot be repaired. They have to be replaced. Search online for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (insert model number of tablet) LCD screen to find suppliers of the correct LCD panel for the tablet

Thank you so much for your feedback! Thankfully, the flex cable was only loose. After playing with it, the screen could display again! Thanks again! Without your help, I probably wouldn't have known the problem and I wouldn't be able to use it for a while.
