Why does my Vizio TV intermittently have sound but no picture?

I have a Vizio E55-E2. The screen will go off but the sound is still on. I can get the screen to come back on by holding down the mute button for 3-5 seconds and then pressing the menu button. The screen will come back on for minutes/hours and then eventually it will go off again. It is not a consistent amount of time.

I opened the back of the TV to look at the boards and the pictures of each board are provided.

Turns out that the processor on the video card was over heating. I plugged a small computer fan into the USB port to push air through the back of the TV and haven’t had an issue since.

@tmat85 once the picture turns black and you still have sound, shine a flashlight at an angle against the screen. See if you can still make out shapes, silhouettes etc. This could be a failing backlight issue, as well as a bad power/main board. You would need to check the voltage from your power board to the backlight LED when the screen is lit and then against when the screen turns off. if you see a big difference it is most likely the power board. Again, you will need to check the voltages on BKLight on from the main board before and during failure to light up. Let us know what you find out.

Thanks! I will update after I test. And to answer your question, I am able to see shapes and shadows with a flashlight.
