Ideas on why keyboard is no longer functional after battery replacemen

I opened my laptop to find that my battery was grossly swollen. Apple had replaced the battery years ago and wouldn’t do it again (plus the pandemic). I decided to handle it myself after reading the guide. Got my new battery and repair tool kit and got to work. Teardown was tedious but doable. The battery came out surprisingly straightforward. Checked out the condition of everything and no obvious damage to anything. Installed the new battery and reassembled the laptop. Plugged into power supply and allowed for a full charge + 2 hours. Booted and all appeared fine. However, no response from any key except the power on button. Keyboard backlighting works fine, trackpad works fine. All other functions work fine. Got out my BT keyboard and no issue typing there (using the laptop and BT keyboard to type this). Reseated keyboard data cable several times. No joy. Removed and reseated trackpad cable. No joy. The laptop is fully functional except for the keyboard. Performed the SMC reset for this model, however, if the keyboard is not functioning then I can’t see how the procedure for resetting the SMC would work because it relies on the keyboard working. No joy. Anyone out there got any ideas? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Check the keyboard connector on the logic board. Reference Step 34 in this guide MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Logic Board Replacement. Lets see if its fully seated if you’re not sure take a picture and post it here for us to see.

Hi, I have checked this connector several time and I believe that it is properly seated.

You had focused on the trackpad cable, are you sure you check the keyboard?

That only leaves either the keyboard or the logic board that has gotten damaged.

OK, my understanding of the laptop cables are the trackpad cable runs across the middle of the battery pack and connects to the logic board via a push down connector secured by a plate attached via two screws. The other end connects to a narrow board between the case and the battery via a zif connector. On the other hand the keyboard connector is located above the battery and to the right of the battery connector. Only a very short length of cable is exposed and it connects to the logic board via a zif connector. Is this not correct?

@Jim Breef - Did you look at the guide I linked to (Blue URL) and then jumping down to ''Step 34' ?? The focus was on the keyboard cable and how the connector works. If you are unsure you have it inserted properly take a couple of pics so we can see what you see Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag

Otherwise you'll need a new keyboard!
