"Can't charge. Watch needs to warm up"?

Please help. Since changing the battery in my Samsung gear s3 frontier watch I've had an issue. When I place it on the charger dock it says “Can't change. Watch needs to warm up”. And with that it will not charge. And eventually the battery runs flat. Can anyone please shed some light on what I may have inadvertently done. I was ever so careful when I changed the battery, and don't think I damaged anything. Better still if there is something I can do to remedy this?
