Hy I have a macbook 15" A1150 pro and my problem is that for some reason I have yet found the computer screen goes black, it looses its brightness. It is still on. the OS is running. But the screen is black. It happens at start up, or sometimes it starts up nice but then it goes black. I have to close it and open it a bunch of times till it works. I opened it and everything looks fine nothing loose. I love my mac and this is the only time it has given me problems. Any advice, tips are greatly welcomed. I live in Puerto Rico and there are no Apple stores here (that sucks)...

PD

Also are there any upgrades that i can make to make it faster. I upgraded to 2GB and a bigger HD.

It sounds like the inverter is going bad, or has a loose connection. If you can hold a flashlight up to the screen when it is dark and still see text on it your LCD inverter is the problem. You need to replace the inverter board if needed or find the loose connection if that is the problem.

They are guides for replacing the inverter board here on ifixit for the A1150 model.

Sounds like you have already upgraded the RAM and hard drive. ( a fast hard drive?)..... as far as making it faster thats about it..... they are some people that go as far as upgrading the processor, so i have heard but have not looked into or done this myself... Your system bus speed would remain the same so how much performance vs how much trouble all that would be isn't worth it , at least to me, my opinion.

I would agree with you Brian accept the A1150 has a LED backlight and not a CCFL backlight. LED backlights do not have an inverter.

+ AB, I think you may be talking about later models.

I agree with Brian on this and the test he recommends with the flashlight. If this is the problem, you will need to replace the inverter, here's the part: MacBook Pro 15" (Models A1150/A1211) Display Inverter. The guides for replacing are on the part page but you need to determine exactly which machine you have. If you give us the last three figures of your serial number we can determine which machine you have. Try hooking it up to an external monitor and let us know if your problems persists. Let's hold off on asking about upgrades till we get this problem fixed as it will make answers to long. Thanks
