hi,

From experience, this can happen because of two things:

slight damage to The home button cable( the one from the display) or it’s not properly sitting in 100% flush with the board.

or secondary, the device needs a power cycle.

you can do this but disconnecting the battery, hold the power button for 5-10 secs, plug battery back in and force reset( hold power button and volume down) ( Apple logo will show up than the phone will shut off again) and see if that results in the home button working again.

I would also try a new display( if you have one spare) to see if the issue still persist.

this is with the assumption that you haven’t touched the physical touch button in any way.

In addition, make sure your display cables aren’t bent severely.

This issues generally points to a display connector/display problem, should not be related to your replacement of the dock connector. That connector is a good distance away from where the problem could be. Inspect the home button display cable. If it shows any signs of damage, you would need to replace the display panel unfortunately which is a bit more risky given you’d have to remove the physical home button which is delicate and can easily be damaged if you don’t take your time with it. I’d try working with your current display first to ensure the connector seats flush in its connector and nothing small is blocking the connection. In the most rare of cases, this can sometimes arise due to a bad battery( not likely but it helps with the power cycling ). If you have a spare, it doesn’t hurt to try.

after some better inspection i saw that the ribbon cable of the home button was taped in place. after i removed the tape the ribbon cable was broken. so that was the problem. You don't need to buy a new screen assembly. You only have to change the iluminator panel on the back of the display. It's not that hard to change it but it requires patiente and heat.
