What to do when a corner of my display goes black? It was dropped.

I was trying to set my computer bag down and it slipped. The top right corner is now black but there is no visible breakage. What should I do to fix it? By the way, the corner has a wavy line between visible display and black, if that helps any.

The display got destroyed in the drop :-(. What makes this worse is these displays are new and uncommon enough display parts may be expensive and scarce - but available. That said, I managed to find a display on PartsPeople so the DP/N is known to shop around and is 3P07V, but it’s NOT cheap. You’re just as screwed on eBay - you aren’t getting a price break with this one.

Don’t expect to find it easily. It’s too new unless you know where to look AND pay top dollar. These InfinityEdge systems are just as bad as the 2016-present rMBP in terms of display cost. In the past it has been possible to do screen only without the back case to save a few bucks (if the back case isn’t also damaged - usually is), but it looks tightly integrated on this one, requiring the entire assembly. Next time, stick to machines with serviceable displays with some breathing room on the bezel since you only lose the display housing instead of the entire unit unless you drop it hard - these displays are pretty but expensive when they break.

I can get parts for pretty much any Latitude out there for practically nothing (even laptops without the HD a lot of the time!) short of batteries and the known to fail parts (I get these through vendors with a solid warranty but I don’t mind buying parts like palmrests and upper/lower cases from sites like eBay) for practically nothing. In some cases, I’ve found entire laptops for the price of the parts I need and bought 2.

That is because of how many recyclers and scrappers have at their disposal when they’re BER after 3 years or replaced in mass by corporate. These XPS machines look like they’ll be scrapped due to screen damage in mass, so there won’t be a cheap supply of screen parts - ever.
