Is the 'Essential Electronics Toolkit' enough to open my MBP and 1+5T?

Hello!

I'm looking to open my MBP 13 2017 this month and give it a good cleaning, so I'm wondering whether the 'Essential Electronics Toolkit’ is the toolkit most people use to open their MBP?

I also want to find out whether I can use the same toolkit to open my OnePlus 5T so I can replace my battery?

Thanks in advance!

Unless you are encountering overheating issues and you tend to use your system in a very dusty environment you shouldn’t need to clean the system this soon. I would install a good thermal monitoring app line TG Pro so you can monitor things.

The Essential Electronics Toolkit will offer the needed bits you’ll need to open your MacBook Pro system. I can’t tell you if it offers what you need for the OnePlus 5T phone.

Thanks Dan! I followed your advice and installed TG Pro, now I can see the temperatures.

So far TG Pro hasn't detected anything wrong with my machine, but it still often gets warm even with just a 5 or less Chrome windows. I usually just close all other apps but it still gets to a point where it will hit 90c.

I installed Malwarebytes just now to see if something else is causing this.

How do you normally monitor your machine?

@rolandc3 - Chrome is a memory hog!

Depending on how much RAM your system has will limit you on how many Chrome windows you can have open based on the available RAM not already being used by your OS and other apps running.

Your system will jump to Virtual RAM when it is starved of real RAM. V-RAM uses your drive to make up for the shortage. Which is why your drive is running warm!

Here your drives available space then comes into question! A full drive will force the housecleaning process to find freed blocks cleaning them and if they have been heavy used move more stagnant data to these blocks (wear leveling). This too will cause the drive to get warm.

So what to do? Reduce your memory load as best as you can. I run a memory monitoring app like Memory Optimizer & Booster which sits in the menu bar so I can see the usage in real time and I can force the blocks to be freed up. A good version of the app can even show you the break down of what your apps are using. Next clean up your drive! free up at least 1/4 of the drive so your system is not fighting to find free space and don't need to do aggressive house cleaning and wear leveling.
