There are 11 iMac that are A1312. They run fro 2009-2012. An emc # from the bottom of the stand would help us to identify it. Or you can go here and enter your serial number to find out exactly what it is.

Once we know what systems your machine will take we can get you some option, from a possible DVD input to a USB external drive.

If using an external drive you will need a bootable system on it. You will boot from the external, run disk utilities . wipe the internal drive and then install a system.

Thanks for your reply, I think the system is a mid 2011 iMac that supports up to

OSX High Sierra

Yeah 2011 supports up to high Sierra. 2012 and onwards support latest Mac os Catalina.

You may need to create Mac os installation media on a USB which requires another working Mac to do it. Google createinstallmedia and you'll have a guide on how to do it.

You may be lucky if internet recovery still works so try that too. When turning on the Mac make sure you are holding command + option + R to force boot internet recovery.

That will prompt for either wifi or Ethernet to be plugged in to get internet access.

If going high Sierra USB install method note that you should keep the Mac disconnected from internet as you'll need to wind the time back from 2019 back to 2018 due to the expired Mac os installer certificate for high Sierra and older using a terminal command:

Please tell us your exact machine by using the link I gave you and the serial number on the back of the machine. I really can't give you an accurate answer without it, I'd just be guessing.
