I think there's any issue with my RAM, is it worth fixing?

Hi everyone, I need help pls.

My laptop turns on and everything, but once I enter my password it starts flashing and acting like it’s restarting. Then the screen goes black but I can see the cursor. When I sign in as guest, it logs me in but I can only browse the internet.

I took it to apple, and the guy said something about my memory not reading when he was scanning it for issues. He said it’s the RAM and would cost about $400 to fix. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself or buy a part myself? I saw online that the RAM isn’t replaceable like for the PROS.

If anyone can give me and advice on steps to take that would be awesome.

Lets give this a try: Restart your system but also hold the Shift (⇧) key to enter into Safe Mode.

Reference: Mac startup key combinations

Did the system startup without the problem?

Update (12/02/2019)

As the problem is after you login that's telling me the OS has a problem not likely RAM.

Do you have a second Mac which you can connect yours to using Target Disk Mode?

We want to setup your MacBook Air in Target Mode by restarting and holding the T key. If you have anything important copy it off before proceeding.

We want to completely wipe the drive using Disk Utility and then re-installing the needed OS this system requires.

But we do have a wrinkle here ;-{ Apple’s installer certificates have long expired in your Lion installer! Which is the highest version your system will run. So we need to alter the systems Date back to the time the installer was designed to work back in 2011. Your controlling system also needs to be one that supported Lion as well otherwise the installer won’t work either.

Before you run the installer you’ll need to alter your working system back

Hi Dan,

Thanks so much for your help. I tried this a few times when I first saw the problem - it takes me to my log in just fine. but there’s no indication it’s in safe mode, does that mean I did something wrong? When I hold the shift key, it starts up like nothing but the second I enter my password it starts flashing again.

I remember watching the apple tech person plug my laptop into his ipad i think? to screen for issues and that’s when he mentioned an issue with the memory. :-(
