Why my iPhone stuck at searching, but work when sim slot is pressed?

Hi all,

I have an Iphone 6G. As you can read from title my iphone is stuck at searching ''for signal. My temporary fix is that i turn off my phone, then lift up the screen and, with my thumb, press the sim slot few times. When i turn on phone everything is normal for a while and then it goes back at searching state again. What can i do to fix it permanently? I’m thinking about replacing the sim card slot'', is it a good idea?

Thank you!

The answer is quite simple: near bottom side of the Sim card reader you find a big IC called baseband that with bumps and flexing gets slightly disconnected from the logic board and oxide builds in between. Such IC takes care of all radio related tasks in an iPhone. When you put pressure you temporarily re-establish lost contacts. To fix your problem one should remove the IC, reinforce and/or rebuild oxidized rails and connections and resolder it correctly to the board. It’s a relatively common repair on iPhones 6.

Best thing is to replace the ic. Reflow will work too in most cases.

This IC can't be replaced. A reflow may work for a limited time in a smaller percentage of cases as most often the issue is caused by a broken trace on the board that can't be fixed with a reflow, needs jumpers to be made.
