How should I install the on/off/sleep & volume flex cable?

I've just bought a replacement on/off/sleep and volume flex cable to replace the one that I accidentally damaged while trying to change my housing and screen. I see that there are 4 spots that it should be soldered on. I'm not exactly a very good solderer, could something like electrical tape be employed here perhaps?

Many thanks for reading,

Adam E.

Did you rip the cable when you took of the mid plane?

You will have to solder on the cable. If there is some solder left on the spots you may be able to use them. Make sure all the yellow tape is off. Use a very, very fine tip on your soldering iron and high temperature. Put the cable in place and hold it in place with tape so you see the soldering spots through the holes in the cable. Apply the iron very quickly to each spot.

I am not saying this is the best way. The best would be to clean all the solder from the contacts, tape the cable in place and apply new solder to each spot. Still using a small tip and high temperature.

This is not as difficult as it may seem. I know it seems scary but I fixed it several times and I am a novice solderer. The important part is to get rid of the isolation over the spots and to use a fine tip so that you can use high temperature on the iron. If you are afraid to do it (I don't blame you!) someone with simple soldering skills should be able to do it.

Thanks Asle, sorry for the late reply. I actually did do it myself with minimal difficulty. I used my 50w solderer (WESD51) with a micro soldering tip (1/32) that I bought online to make sure that it was spot-on accurate.

Will do, I think I might just have to solder it on. However, I'm afraid I might do a horrible soldering job and damage my iPod even further. I'm planning on just paying someone else to repair it.

I really need help. During screen replacement, i accidently cutted the tape which is on top of the rear camera. Does this effect anything?

During the replacement,i coused no harm to the power buttons ribbon cable, except i touched the cable with the tip of my screwdriver to dissasemble the panel on top of the rear camera.

What should i do?

That copper colored tape that sits on the underside of the metal shield that connects to the top of the rear camera really does not serve much of a purpose, I have done multiple screen replacements and I pretty much allways tear the tape so I can get the shield out of the way. I have not seen any adverse effects due to ripping that tape.
