This is a poorly worded question, we need to know what your actual problem is. Has your 2011 GPU failed and if so, how. I have a fix for this if it is your problem.

Macbook is working perfect - my question was about probability

The issue is pushing the system beyond what it was designed to do.

Let’s go back in time when this system was designed end of 2009/early 2010. The best games at the time where still using ASCI code color blocks and shapes! Yes, the Stones and Clubs of caveman times! Within less than two years graphics jumped to the 1950’s the start of the car revolution! And then in 2013 Supersonic transit across the Atlantic!

So while the apps and games where moving at such a clip in graphical performance your poor 2011 system was locked in on what was expected for performance when it was designed. A good way to think of this is imagine driving down a major highway passing a Ford model T in a whoosh of speed. The poor driver of the Model T was likely pushing his car to the max of 35 MPH unlike your car going 70 MPH. Thats what you are facing here.

So the best thing you can do is make sure your system is as clean as possible internally and I would recommend cleaning and re-applying new thermal paste. That way the system is at its best from a cooling perspective. Even still I would use a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro and even turbo the fans when I knew the system was going to be stressed thermally. This then gets into what apps or games you can use on this system. Clearly nothing using anything heavy graphically!

If you have already have a dead dedicated GPU then you can either disable it so the intergraded graphics engine is used or you can swap out your logic board for a newer one which has a much better GPU the 2012 model is by far much better! It’s a direct drop in with a slight modification of the internal display’s LVDS cable as the newer board connector is so sightly smaller than the older model.

Thats my plan with thermal paste and cleaning - my question was about I thought Late 2011 were less likely GPU problem than Early 2011 (Apple solved problem in Late 2011)

@Bart - Both early & late 2011 use an AMD Radeon HD 6490M or 6750M or 6770M all are similar core design and all had heat issues when stressed.

The 2012 is used an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is a very different design!

I’m not sure what you mean but the 15” 2011s all suffer from GPU overheat failure.

I thought early 2011 were more likely - late 2011 less likely :(

I had the same issue, and yes unfortunately this is the same unit. I ended up having to replace the main board since the GPU was failing , especially after it ran for a while.
