Water leaks when washing sheets

Every time I try and wash a set of sheets, my Whirlpool WTW4800XQ1 leaks water. It almost seems like they are getting wrapped around the agitator and then it leaks. If I can out a couple towels I’m first with sheets on top it is less likely to leak. Does anyone know what would be causing this issue?

Hannah Schmidt, are you saying if you put towels in the tub first with sheets on top of towels that it doesn’t leak? Let me ask this, do you do all your laundry on the same day? Are the sheets usually the last load? If so, the water could be from your home plumbing backing up. If there is a cling in the drain pipe somewhere it could be backing up. Or, the washer has been leaking a little during all the loads and you don’t notice it until the last load. Slide a cookie sheet or similarunder the washer. If it’s leaking it’ll catch the water.

Sheets should be washed with only sheets. Adding towels, jeans or small items like socks can damage the washer. Heavy items with sheets create off balanec loads that damage the center bearings and seals and the suspension. Small items get caught in air pockets of the sheets and get pushed over the top of tub ending up in the pump.

I have seen the center seal leak only on loads using hot water and on loads that are off balance. Any hoses or pumps that leak will leak all the time.

Solution 1:

Drain Pump

The drain pump pumps water out the drain hose. If the drain pump is cracked or damaged, or if the bearings are worn out, the drain pump may leak water. The drain pump is not repairable—if the pump is leaking water, replace it.

Solution 2:

Tub Seal

The tub seal might be torn, causing water to leak from the seal. If the tub seal is leaking water, water may leak through the tub seal and into the tub bearings. This can cause the bearings to fail. For this reason, if the tub seal is leaking water, replace both the tub seal and the tub bearings. Be aware that this is a complicated repair and will require disassembling most of the washer.

Solution 3:

Drain Hose

The drain hose may be leaking. The drain hose most commonly leaks from the connection between the pump and the back of the washer. If the washer is pushed too far against the wall, the hose can rub against the wall and form a leak. Inspect the drain hose for leaks. If the drain hose is leaking, replace it.

Thank you for your response. However, all of these solutions seem to be appropriate if the washer leaked all the time, it does not. I wash weekly, every week I was a load of darks, a load of dress clothes, a load of towels and a load of sheets. Of those four loads, the only time it leaks is when the load of sheets are in there. This is what has us perplexed.
