Hi, i have spent several hours over internet trying to find answers to my questions, but it seems to difficult to do experiments with ipods.

I have an Ipod classic, i think it is the first with colour screen and 60Gb hdd 1,8 with zif CE adapter.

I cracked the screen and oredered one chinesse and it do not work. And as i only want it for incar music, i do not care about the screen. But it does not turn on, so i think also logic board is dead.

My questions are:

1º Can i use a spare logic board alone with a harddisk? My only requeriments are itunes sync and dock connnector to connect to my alpine head unit. Will it work? or it does have to have another piece of hardware to work propperly?

2º is there any restriction in which harddrive can be used with each logicboard? in example, if i buy a 5th gen logicboard can i use my 60gb hdd?. As i Have read all ipod uses ATA66 interface, so i assume it can work...

I would think that it could work. The first thing I could use some clarification on, is that you said your iPod has a "zif CE adapter" Are you using a hard drive or a CF card?

You may have difficulty going through the menus without the screen, and not sure why you would not replace it since it is not very expensive. I do have iPods working without click wheels by using iTunes to play the files. If you get a new logic board and want to use a HDD get yourself a new HDD cable as well. Good Luck.

No, i am using 1.8 IDE 60Gb ATA66 4200rpm disk. but the disk has an adapter to zif, becouse it has 1.8 ide connector, but when i unmounted ipod for the first time it was there.

So you think there is no prob to use a 5th gen ipod logicboard with my 60gb hdd?

Sounds good, let us know how it turned out. The strange thing is the adapter....obviously someone has modified it....
