Need a power jack for Powerspec 1510 laptop

Hi,

my dc power jack is broken on my laptop and i need to solder in a new one. I have a Powerspec 1510 laptop but am not sure where to buy compatible parts for it online.

Does anyone know what i should buy or if the msi power jack is compatible?

Hi there,

Was wondering if you were ever able to find something compatible because I'm running into the same issue!

Thanks in advance!

Stephen Heflin  since your laptop is a bit of an off-brand machine it will be difficult to answer this. Of course you can try all the usual places like ebay and Amazon etc. but it will still be hard to find the part. The best thing to do would be to disassemble your computer and to take a look at the DC in jack and what it looks like and how it is shaped etc. Then you have something that you can at least start comparing replacement with. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipo77WlH... |this video should be comparable to your computer. Once disassembled post some good pictures of your port etc. with your question. That will allow us to see what you see and we could possibly assist you with your repair.

The Powerspec 1510 uses a 19.5V power adapter, so use that as a reference point to find a new jack. The issue is since it is a gaming laptop and not a mainstream model, you need a tip that will support the factory 230W 11.8A power adapter. Your replacement will also need to support these high amperage requirements.

As far as the tip goes, it looks like a Toshiba/Asus/Acer tip, which is quite standard as far as replacement adapters go. The problem is finding one that is compatible with the 230W adapter is a bit more difficult (but not impossible) since most of them use the Dell barrel style plug because of how much power is drawn and it can have a sense IC for 3rd party adapter lockout. The power adapter can be found on Amazon quite easily if you need a reference.

It’s quite common for these Clevo/Sager private label systems to use that tip, which is why I knew what it pretty much was. The grounding sleeve is almost always the same (+/- 1-2mm, which doesn’t matter in practice as it’s a built in tolerance) but the internal positive may be larger for the high amperage supplies. Measure the internal tolerance first and then the grounding sleeve. More then likely the ground sleeve is the same as the ones used in the above mentioned laptops (65/90W), but the internal part may be slightly larger due to the higher wattage. Go off of that and find out which laptop from those companies is the closest possible match. More then likely it’ll be a Acer Travelmate tip, as the Asus and Toshibas usually use the smaller positive pin.
