MBP won't start after SSD install

Hy!

My MacBook Pro (late 2011) won't start up after SSD installation. Tried replacing with the old one, nothing happened. Pressing the power button has no effect (no lights, no fans spinning, no sounds) with any other key combination.

Tried SMC reset and NVRAM reset, nothing happened.

The only thing is working it is power cycle mode, but the MBP don't boots up, only the apple logo appears and after 15-20 seconds it restarts itself.

If I keep pressing Shift when trying to boot up in power cycle mode the MBP starts in safe mode so I can access data but battery is not recognized.

I don't know what to do anymore, I checked all the cables and all all the connections, they seems to be OK…

Sounds like you forgot something or damaged something

Go back and check your connections

What color is your MagSafe connector - Amber or Green?

What does your battery checker on the side tell you how many lights are they blinking?

Do you practice proper ESD protection?

The magsafe connector is green.

I checked the connections 10 times… And in power cycle mode I can access data from the hard disk, so the connection must be OK.

The battery checker says 6 lights on from 8.

So you are able to access your systems drive using Target Disk Mode? Is that what you mean by "power cycle mode"?

i think you are telling us in a round-about-way your dedicated GPU died.

Power cycle mode is when I keep pressing power on button without magsafe connector 10s then plugging in the connector and keeping pressed power on another 10 sec.

In this way the machine is booting up in power cycle mode.

And yes, I am able to access Target disk mode when the machine boots up.

Cycling the power doesn't really alter anything. What you are doing is running thur the POST (Power On Self Test) and well as step through the stages the system takes to turn on.

Sadly this is a symptom of a failing dedicated GPU. What happens is the GPU is powered on and as it is unable to acknowledge the the CPU it has finished the screen goes grey. or black.

You'll either need to disable the D\dedicated GPU using the CPU's graphics engine or replace the logic board (getting the 2012 model)

Are you able to put in your old HD and Boot into it?

Your Computer model is very notorious for having a bad GPU. Unfortunately there is not an easy fix for this without the use of Soldering or a replacement Motherboard. However, you would be running into the issue of the same problem happening again. Personally I would recommend looking into a replacement machine as the cost of repair for this computer vs. the value of it doesn’t make it worth the repair.

@austinkn - I've been putting in the newer 2012 boards which don't face the same failure or just disabling the dedicated GPU if graphics is not that big an issue.

This is true, the 2012 boards do not have this issue which is convenient for upgrading. Does the 2011 LCD work with the 2012 LB? I was under the assumption that they were different connectors.

Yes, I am able to put back the old HDD, but the same problem is persisting.

Power button does not react at all.

Machine is booting up only in power cycle mode.

@austinkn & @sniper19 - The 2012 board is a direct fit. A very slight modification to the LVDS cable is only needed. The connector tang is just a bit too wide (0.02 mm). All I do is take an emory board with fine grit and carefully sand the edge down equally on each side with a few strokes.

I'm currently repling to you from such a system!
