SATA cable used for this? It didn't come with one

So I purchased the i9 with 512GB SSD. But since it’s blade, it never came with a SATA cable! I searched high and low and could not find a part for this. What can I do?

Also, it looks like I can use a thermal sensor, does that mean I can just get a Samsung 860 2TB SSD drive? Thank you.

At what point will I know if I don't need a thermal sensor (that OWC says I need, but other DP says not needed)? Obviously when the fan ramps up, but can I make it happen sooner?

Your systems sensors call for the the fan to ramp up as the internals get warm and then run hardest when the system is pushing out a lot of heat.

You don't need to push the system to see if the sensor is needed or not. The way the system responds when one of the required sensors is missing is to go into Safe Mode rapping the Fan the the max as well as lower the CPU's clocking so not to push the CPU heat output.

So if your system needed the sensor you would know after a few minutes once the display was connected up (it too has needed thermal sensors!) The fan will ramp up and finally go at the highest RPM on its own.

If you what a better way of seeing things then get this app https://www.tunabellysoftware.com/tgpro/TG Pro] it will allow you to see all of the thermal sensors as well as the fans RPM. You can even ramp up the fan manually.

I had the Mac Fan Control and set to ambient auto, connected the Samsung SSD, and the fan speed stayed at 1200. I manually ramped up just to see or hear what it would be like. Played some youtube full screen and it was still 1200. Based it on near RAM temperature and it went up to like 1800 - I'm hoping that's OK too?

You’ll need the Late 2015, 17 & 19 27” iMac HD SATA cable is Apple P/N 923-00664 and the correct tapes iMac 27" VHB Display Tape Repair Kit - Apple Original (2017/19) and lastly, you’ll also need a 2.5" to 3.5" SSD/HDD Drive Tray for your SSD to mount to the 3.5” drive bay.

Cool. I had even asked Apple and they had no clue, referred me to authorized service centers who told me that they don’t sell them. Everywhere else, “too new”.

Your link kit doesn’t have any thermal sensor, does it still need it? (The OCW kit I had bought included one).

Test it without the OWC sensor (you will need to connect the display as there is a two thermal sensors in it) I'm suspecting you won't need it. The 2017 doesn't but Apple could have altered things once again.

I'll do that. I'll plan to connect everything, but not seal the edges (test it laying down). At what point will I know if I don't need it? Obviously when the fan ramps up, but can I make it happen sooner?
