White screen of death!

hi,

I'm having the same problem, like in this topic: White screen after repair

same description.

When I power it on, I never get the apple logo, and it goes right to a white screen. If I hit the power/lock button it will go black screen. Hit it again and white screen. The mute toggle works (phone will vibrate), and iTunes recognizes the iPhone just fine. Holding home button will bring up voice control. I have tried a new LCD and digitizer's, and same symptoms.

I have restored the firmware twice using iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1, but keeps same white screen

thanks!

You need to look at the connector 1 for LCD, it may be damaged or dirty. Try turning phone off, reopen and clean the connectors. Make sure that the pins that connect to the flex aren't damaged and that all the pins are soldered to the motherboard. Any damage may mean that you will need to replace that connector..an extremely tricky job most of us don't have the tools for. Have a look online to see if there is anyone near you who offers this kind of repair/search ebay/google or pop in to your local phone repair shop. You can buy the connector fairly cheaply and ask an electrical/computer repair shop if they are able to do it.

Hi, what do you mean you replaced connector 1? Did you solder on a new connector? Did you do it yourself or get someone else to do it? I would never dare to do that kind of work so I would like to know who does such things.

hi, yes I did solder a new connector, to do so, I thought "this phone is 50% working, so I won't lose anything trying to fix it" :D

I bought the new connector from ebay, then I borrowed a heat gun and followed these videos on youtube.com

to remove the old and damaged connector

to solder the new one, I watched around 10 different videos to feel prepared ;)

you can also look up more videos about this kind of soldering by "reflow solder", "Hot-Air Soldering".. etc..
