Apple Watch series 2 possible battery leak?

Hey Guys!

I've just bought broken watches. The guy sad that they stopped charging. I thought that the battery is the problem, so I bought them. After opening the device I immidiately noticed green, white or maybe blue type of matter. On first sigh It didn't look like it’s corrosion. Have you ever seen this? Is it battery acid? Any possible ideas how to fix it?

As you can see, that greenish matter is only on the battery connector cable, on the plastic cable, so in case of water leak I would expect corrosion on metalic pieces. Secondly, the green matter is only on the spot, where the battery cable touched the device, thats why I think it’s just battery acid, not water. When water leaks into device its characterstic would case leaking and making corrosion all over the whole device. Any tip for cleaning this possibly acid matter?

Likely water damage. The early models did encounter leaks in the gaskets.

If you can see if you can get your money back.

Battery Juice and Corroded Contacts

Electronics Water Damage

To displace any remaining liquid around or under any components of the logic board submerge it completely in a suitably sized container filled with isopropyl alcohol. Ideally use a 90% or higher concentration available from a pharmacist or drug store. You can use distilled or deionized water as an alternative cleaning fluid, although this will take longer to dry. Avoid solvents such as ketone, acetone, or naphtha.

BTW, the use of blanket phrases like " probably a short" or "battery acid" are usually uttered by rascals who have no idea what either term actually means and have not actually done any research to back up their statements.

@propman Thank you man! I am not a native speaker, which shows up in these so called "blanket phrases". I'm building the sentence in my native language which uses these phrases often. That's the reason. The word battery acid I used as a synonym for the battery filling because I have no idea what it's made of.

But still! Thank you for staying at the merit and helping me! Tomorrow I am going to the druh store for the isoprophyl. I will update!

Your pics show a very badly blistered Lithium Ion battery!

First take the battery outside and in a vented metal box so when it goes the gases can escape and also control any fire.

The greenish corrosion is caused by chlorine or salt eating the exposed copper surfaces. The electrolytic used in Lithium Ion batteries (lithium hexafluorophosphate) leaves a white power. As the battery is blistered we know the battery has not ruptured yet so that was not the cause of the corrosion.

But the chlorine water or salt water is conductive and can short the battery out causing it the overheat causing the blistering. Oftentimes the battery will push the display or the sensor outwards as these are not tightly attached.

So if I will follow the above mentioned article about using isoprophyl and clenaing contacts, It may work? Of course I will replace the battery aswell.

While cleaning will help, The circuitry maybe damaged from the shorting. In addition the pressure of the battery can also damage the display, SIP and sensor unit. Consider the costs to replace these other parts if needed besides the battery.
