Why does my device begin to boot then shut down?

I found an old Macbook Unibody A1342 in my basement and I’ve been trying to get it working. I’ve tried booting from a flashdrive but had the same problem. I don’t think it’s the display because I hear the fans stopping and there’s no OS sound. My device also does not charge to 100%, which led me to thinking it was the battery, but I can’t boot by just unhooking the battery and plugging in the charger.

It only boots to the apple logo and shuts down before showing loading bar. Same result on ubunto flash drive.

In my experience most A1342 with issues have had some spill on keyboard which on that machine sits in a tray like plastic seal cover. I would try disconnecting the keyboard and try to start off jumper pads to start with.

Thanks, I'll try that!

Update: It might not work. The person who used to own it said that it just fallen off their bed and stopped working, but I'll try.

Which connector is for the keyboard? I tried one that looked like it ran under but not too the battery, same result.

I've never repaired a macbook before :P

It booted up like that but turns off as soon as I remove my GPIO wire (I assume that's normal). It's hard to hold the wires long enough to see if it will keep working, though.
