Motherboard transplant, will it work?

I have a iPhone that I’ve been using without a casing all along and now the cracked digitizer final gave up on me, plus the aluminum body is quite badly banged up.

Can I just get my bro’s phone (which he’s not using anymore) and pop in my current motherboard, and expect it to just work? I’m trying to avoid going through the backup and restore process cos bro’s got some stuff in there that is preferably not erased so I’d rather preserve that other board.

Why not, if you do the job properly the swap would not be a problem. You can get some help from this guide:

Thanks! I was a little worried that they had some restriction measures in place that prevents booting if a different set of hardwareIDs is detected or something.
