Are after market Mac batteries okay to use?

I don’t know if this is true or not, but I’ve been told that replacing a MacBook Pro battery with an after-market (generic) battery can damage the logic board. Of course the only people telling me this are the ones who work for Apple Service Centers. Does anyone know of any reason why a generic battery designed for a specific Mac model would pose a problem?

Sadly, this is all FUD Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt.

Focus on who is selling the battery and its warranty. Have they been in business a few years? Getting a good 3rd party battery is not hard.

@danj Finding one and installing it are two very different matters ;-)

@mayer - I figured your answer dealt with that ;-}

Hi Lee

I have personally installed several aftermarket Macbook batteries and have not had any issues. The big difference between aftermarket and OEM is going to be with Li-Ion protection circuitry embedded into the battery. I would recommend you purchase from a seller with a good reputation.

Best of luck!
