iMac shows the blinking folder after replacing with new SSD

I have replace my IMAC hard drive using ifixit kit with a new SDD. Followed directions precisely. When I start my computer I get the folder with question mark…? I can do “Option” and get the option to boot from a bootable usb I’ve made. When I select that it just goes to the zero with slash through it….? What is up with this?

The slash is telling you the USB drive is not a bootable macOS for your system the highest this system can support is 10.13.x High Sierra. Is this the OS you setup the USB drive with or one this is older? If not you’ll need do that.

What is the SSD you installed make and model? Your system needs a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive. Most drives being sold today are fixed SATA III (6.0 Gb/s). You’ll need to get an auto sensing drive like a Samsung 860 EVO which supports SATA II as you can see here in the specs sheet https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/gl...
