Is the digitalizer the same connector on a 3g as the 3gs

i have just tried to fix an iphone which i thort was a 3g however when it came to putting the digitalizer plug back on it didnt stay in, it was like it wasent the right one, also i check it with the old one and they seemed different. i was wondering whether or not a 3gs plug is different to a 3g plug and do you think this is my problem???

The 3G and 3GS have different connectors on the front panel assembly, that's why they have different parts.

If you can't tell which is which, look at the model number. The 3G is A1241 and the 3GS is A1303. Also, here's the iPhone model ID page on the Apple support site.

The 3GS connector of the digitizer ribbon has a black plastic bar running down the middle of the connector. The 3G connector is only metal pins, no plastic bar down the middle.
