CPU fan running at full speed while fan control shows 0 rpm

Hello there guys,

So I've recently baked my GPU and it works like a charm, but during the process I accidentally ripped my GPU thermal sensor cable.

I've plugged loose sensor cable back to the board, but it is not attached to my GPU.

Now ever since my CPU fan is running at full speed but fan control software shows my CPU fan running at 0 rpm without any option to control it (I can control ODD and HDD fans though).

I have tried resetting and upgrading my SMC, tried upgrading EFI as well without any luck.

My question is does lack of my GPU sensor affect my CPU fan or the problem is elsewhere?

Thank you for your time!

Simple answer - YES!!

What you are seeing is SMC has gone into Safe Mode to protect your system from overheating. When any thermal sensor becomes disconnected this is what happens.

You’ll need to fix the GPU thermal sensor.
