Unit won’t power on, battery indicator flashing 5 times < to >.

I had recently put a question regarding a MacBook that I have which was crippled with keyboard issues. The main problem being the power button does nothing when pressed and the charger changes from green back to orange when the Mac is plugged in and the power button is pressed.

Earlier this week, I had successfully been able to use it, although it had a tendency of not turning on after I’d used it for an amount of time. The MacBook would sometimes turn on when the power button was pressed, and sometimes it wouldn’t. After a couple of days, it was unresponsive..

I had accepted an answer on my previous question about this same unit. The answer verified the problem I was having, which was keyboard related. I purchased a top case plus keyboard off of eBay and installed it earlier today (05/31). After doing the keyboard transplant, I was confident that the laptop would turn on after I pressed the power button, but it didn’t…

————————

Now, the battery is not being recognized by the unit and I can’t get it to power on at all. The charger light stays green and the battery indicator led’s flash from left to right 5 times. Since the MacBook isn’t charging anymore, I’m faced with another issue, and I thought I wouldn’t have anymore.

————————

I don’t have an idea of what to do next to get this stubborn computer to power on so I could use it again…

I will value any input given to me, thanks.

(The laptop was liquid damaged when I purchased it as there was some corrosion on the top case + keyboard, but the machine was intermittently bootable. The battery would be detected, but it isn’t anymore after a new keyboard transplant.)

The battery checker LED’s blinking are a sign the battery needs replacing. To double check install CoconutBattery and post a snapshot of the main window here for us to see Voeg afbeeldingen toe aan een bestaande vraag

The fact your keyboard is also having problems is telling me the battery has swelled which is pressing on the cable connection.

The battery I did buy was a new old stock battery from eBay, which has never been used and it worked great when the machine was usable. But as of yesterday I can’t get my Mac to power on at all. I tested two batteries that I have, and they both aren’t recognized.

I don’t notice any swelling either.

You still have a power issue and it does still look like your battery(ies) is in trouble!

Lets, check the MagSafe connector on the system is the pins clean and shiny? Check the cord on the charger is it smooth undamaged? Is there any cuts?

The pins look shiny, but I will try cleaning the port itself. The cord appears to be fine and undamaged!

I could try replacing the board to see if that will get this booting up for the first time in like a week, but as of now, I’m just stuck with an $80 paperweight. Great. This has been so stressful, and the lack of help I’m getting on this forum is really frustrating.

Water damaged devices are the most difficult to deal with even for skillful technicians as they need thorough testing, lots of time wasting, known good replacement parts and so on. Chances to buy a liquid damaged Mac and fix it without deep diagnostic skills are as many as those of winning a lottery and that's the reason why someone would sell for 80$ a Mac that would sell normally for 350$. A logic board such as yours counts about 2000 different parts and hundreds power and data lines. Replacing the logic board would be a good idea but it might turn out not sufficient in the end.

Yeah I understand now. I always get myself into projects like these because they’re a hobby I enjoy partaking in. It was the best feeling ever getting this unit to power on, but it didn’t last for long. (I did leave everything taken apart for a few days until I ordered my part, which maybe shouldn’t have been done..)

I thought for sure the keyboard was going to be the issue because in another question I made about this, the symptoms this Mac was having matched the description of another suggestion. I’ll see what more I can do to try to bring this back to life, before I get the new logic board. Thanks for understanding.
