Air 2 Continuously Restarts

So I’ve got this customers iPad Air 2 here. He brought it in and said that it just keeps restarting. He said he took it to apple a couple of years ago and they told him the issue but he doesn’t remember what they wanted to replace. So my colleague suggests changing the battery, this fixes nothing. The iPad will sometimes come on if you hold down the power and home button , and will always come on as soon as it’s plugged into the wall or a laptop. After maybe 2-5 minutes, the iPad just turns off. Sometimes it’s still on when I long press the power button; but most of the time it’s just bootlooping. Other times if I unplug it and don’t touch it , it will say on for hours. Any suggestions?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand from your description if you replaced battery or not yet..

I apologize . Yes, he suggested changing the battery. He did it, and the issue persists.

Sounds like it could be a logic board issue. I would also check to make sure all the of screen connectors are properly inserted first. If they are fine and you have swapped the battery and it is still experiencing the same issues either the logic board could have a defect or the pads where the battery contacts the board isn’t getting a solid connection. If you have a spare board lying around it wouldn’t hurt to swap it. Issues like these are hard to diagnose because if you are like me you don’t want to blow $100+ on a part that might or might not fix the issue.

I’ve checked the connection on the screen and board and all are fine. I wish I had a spare board but I don’t. The customer was very convinced that apple told him changing a part out would fix this. I don’t want to but maybe plug and play?

If you have already replaced the battery it should have enough juice to run the iPad out of the box. It's pretty rare from what I've seen that a battery doesn't come charged. I feel like the only thing it could be would have to be the logic board. I'm almost ruling out the charging port because that wouldn't make the iPad turn of if it has enough charge on the battery. Try and see if there is any physical damage on the board.
