Is my iPhone fixable?

I have an iPhone 5s, I’ve had it for a few years rotting in my drawer. I dropped it in the toilet while the screen was falling apart, the screen is now dangling by a thread and the inside looks fine but I just want to know if I should try to fix the screen to see if it works.

Unfortunately, I am going to gravitate towards a "no" here. It's possible that someone might disagree and provide some help. I am also more curious about how the phone was treated after it was submerged in the toilet. Please don't tell me that you put it in rice afterwards. /crossing fingers :)

@pixseoul it was probably a rice phone judging from the reported damage. It's been like that for years and we didn't put that myth to bed (properly) until somewhat recently.

I've seen rice damage and it has all of the obvious indications as noted by the OP. I told someone to use it in middle school despite knowing better :(. Even told it to some on those hard to open Shuffles.

No I kinda just said screw it and threw it in my drawer so I lost everything on it, is there any way I could retrieve old photos?

Good - you didn't put it in rice. The problem is the water stagnated because you never cleaned it.

Is there any other simple way to just get my photos off of the phone ?

Since this was probably a rice phone, the phone is probably too far gone to repair. That being said, if it was freshwater you *might* have a marginal (but small) chance of fixing it - just don’t hold your breath.

The first thing you want to do is clean the motherboard in the phone using high concentration isopropyl alcohol or a ultrasonic cleaner. Read this Wiki for information on how to do it right. And this is why rice is not a way to fix electronics.

After you have cleaned the board, replace the battery. Once exposed to liquid they either become a safety hazard or run so poorly it needs to get done anyway.

After cleaning the board and replacing the battery (if the phone passes inspection), get a new display installed. You may lose TouchID if the sensor is also too far gone, which is likely so my suggestion is to expect to lose TouchID for good if the phone is still repairable. I’d buy one to have on hand just to be safe.
