So i recently broke my LCD screen on my TI84 and I purchased this from aliexpress:

Hi @freemanwill

How about your previous LCD screen?

Understand it is broken.

Do you recall what you see on the screen before the replacement?

Any components or surface mount came off from the calculator mainboard?

Previous LCD screen was blank white screen with black splotches all over. Also, no components or mounts came off the calculator board. When connecting to TI Connect I do see the screenshot it takes of the calculator screen and it works flawlessly.

Unfortunately, although that display looks similar, it’s not compatible with the TI 84 Plus CE. Most likely the driver is incompatible because TI loves to make it difficult to find compatible replacement parts. The correct part is a GiantPlus GPM1421C0 the latest display is a GPM1607A1 fortunately, it doesn’t matter which one you get since they are interchangeable. Unfortunately, I have no idea where you could buy one, we believe TI sources them directly. :(

If you want to be sure you’re getting the correct display, I would suggest buying a broken TI 84 Plus CE(-t) that still has a working display and salvage the display out of that. (I should add though that it’s quite difficult to find a broken TI 84 Plus CE) Make sure not to buy a TI 84 Plus CSE since the display is NOT compatible with the TI 84 Plus CE.

If you’d still like to test the display to see if anything works,

  1. turn the calculator on (use the screen shot software to be sure you’re on the home screen)
  2. Press [mode]
  3. Press [alpha]
  4. Press [S] (aka the [ln] key)
  5. Press [enter] three times.
  6. Press [1]
  7. There will be a series of different colors and patterns that the LCD will try to display. Press [enter] 8 times to cycle through all of them.
  8. Press [1] if you want to go through the test again. Press [clear] to exit back to the home screen ( Your RAM will be cleared).

Hopefully that will give you some insight on what your LCD is doing and if you can potentially fix it yourself. Good luck!

P.S. out of curiosity, how did the display get splotches on it? The plastic screen protector should’ve prevented that. If your calculator is under a year old you can probably return it to TI support as a defect and get a brand new calculator.
