After replacing the battery, I get a message Touch ID wont’ work and it doesn’t work. Tested before sealing up with the adhesive. Any hints, my wife hates me now.

did you check if you have damaged the touch ID ribbon cable by accident.

Yes, neither of the two lower cables attached to the screen were damaged.
It appears you have damaged the flex cable for the Home Button, does the button still work? On the 7, it is a Taptic button, so chances are if the home button no longer functions you have lost Touch ID, and only Apple can fix this. (Replace the phone) .

While replacing battery not any problem appear. There is possible reason for that.
1-While open screen might be Home button flex tear.
2-Home button flex connector might be broken pin or not connected properly.
3-Long screw over battery covering metal frame may cause issues.
See this on your phone clearly that you got the solution.

The button worked fine just before the final install, removing adhesive guard, assembling phone, applying heat to back of phone and weighing down for 30 minutes. Now I receive Touch ID won’t work on start up and button doesn’t work at all. I’ve taken phone apart again, don’t see any damage to either of the two cables attached to the bottom part of screen.

After a day the button magically worked again. Thanks for all the great information, I’ve learned a lot and will be much more careful reassembling the phone with the next repair.
