No power after hard drive swap.

I swapped the dead HDD for a new SSD and the system will not power on. I verified the battery is plugged back in and unplugged it again for about 2 minutes. No power indication from the cord charger either. No lights period. Looking for ideas. Thanks.

Press the battery check button on the side and see if you get any indication that the battery has a charge.

I did finally find out the battery check button does not light up at all. The battery did work prior to the swap for the record.

I also found the power cable does have a VERY dim green light. You don't even see it in a normally bright room. If it is in a dark room you see it. Not sure if that helps.

Check your MagSafe charger! Is the cable worn or messed up, Is the connector pins not straight (melted plastic)? Review this guide Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters Also check this write up OEM MagSafe Chargers vs Cheap Imposters: Teardown for Truth

It looks fine - nothing worn, no melted pins, no bulges in the cable etc. It worked perfectly before the swap and the battery was working as well.

Oh and it is a genuine Apple charger and not a knock off.

At this point it sounds like you have a dead or bad battery and/or the connection to the logic board has a problem which is why the onboard battery checker is not showing any charge.

Did you use proper ESD precautions? The logic board MOSFET's are very static sensitive the glowing MagSafe charger is implying one or more are damaged.

Did you remove the logic board at all?

If you did you could have failed to reconnect or damaged the cable connections or other components.

Have you tried of installing the system ( macintosh )? You should do a time machine backup to a harddrive / usb.

If that was the issue he should see a blinking question mark on a folder icon.
