Always needing to reset SMC + Fans running at full speed

For reference, I’ve done some troubleshooting and replaced DC-in at Unable to power up after it slept.

Latest steps to replicate issue, consistently:

  1. Failure to boot up post shutdown/sleep/close lid.
  2. Initiate force shut down by holding power button down.
  3. Power up with power button again. Fans will run at full speed. MacBook can be used this way but it runs at full speed constantly.
  4. Not wanting to use the computer this way, I force shut down by holding power button down. And then reset SMC by holding CTRL+OPT+SHIFT+POWER buttons down for 10 seconds.
  5. Power up with power button again. Fans run at normal speed. At this point if the MacBook goes back into state #1 (i.e. shutdown/sleep/close lid), I won’t be able to “power up” again. I’ll then continue with step #2.

Troubleshooting Summary:

1. Replaced DC-in, ok.

2. Wall socket checked out, ok.

3. Clean installation of latest OS, ok.

4. Charger using original one that came with my MacBook, ok.

Please help!

Hi

My guess would be there is some sensor that is malfunctioning in the computer

Download this free software called HWmonitor. This shows all the sensor temps in real time inside the laptop. Look for something that is unusual. something thats above 100c. Please report back

Thanks

There's HWMonitor by CPUID https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonito... but it doesn't have a Mac version. Do you have the name of the company that makes the HWMonitor you're referring to?

Got it! At the time of the screenshot, my fans are running full speed.

After the above screenshot, I went ahead to do the exact same steps mentioned in my initial post. I shut down the macbook, hold shift control option power to reset smc, and booted back up. This time there's a chime, and the fans are running normal speed, as expected!

Any chance you had a chance to look at my screens?
