How do I reset SMC if my laptop actually has no battery left?

I’ve been having issues with my Macbook & charger where sometimes my computer shuts of on its own and the charger stop working. I can normally fix this issue easily by reseting the SMC. However, my laptop actually ran out of battery this time and I cannot reset SMC because to do so, the computer needs to turn on, which it can’t do as it is dead.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you!

Unless it’s internally damaged and causing a short, battery presence shouldn’t be preventing your Mac startup. You can try unplugging the battery and then connect the Magsafe..if everything is in order beyond the battery your Mac will boot normally. To reset the SMC when battery is unplugged it’s sufficient to keep the power button pressed for about 15 seconds.
