I recently replaced my iPhone 8 screen with a replacement from iFixit.
The 3D Touch function is very sensitive. Almost so its unusable, is there a solution? Is it perhaps software based?
Also it seems the refresh rate of the display is lower than the original?

3D Touch requires individual calibration, the replacement screen will always have wrong calibration data. The only way is to keep swapping screen to find one more or less matches.

You can recalibrate by resetting the phone
Like a factory reset and then restore from backup?
I only bought the one screen so can’t really swap around.
Back up your data so it isin't lost and a factory resent my not calibrate it but thy say that's the most calibrating you can do on a iPhone.
No it is not possible to recalibrate by using reset all settings. Connection to Apple internal DisiplayCloud and using the Horizon Machine to test pressure sensitivity is required.
I did a full reset and that didn't solve it.
I find it odd that iFixit wouldn't list this as a potential problem when switching screens.

It’s most likely not a very good screen that you got. You may have to try another one if you have it, are you able to put your old one on and see if that’s any better?

I could but i know 3D Touch worked on the old one since i often used it.

Go to settings/General/Accessibility/3D touch and from there you can set it to Light/Medium/firm. Your probably set to light in order to make it less sensitive set it to medium or firm.

Did you replace the water seal on the device? that helps with 3d touch also I believe.

I did not.
However i switched back to the old display and it works fine without water seal.
