Why did shops screen replacement cause damage beyond repair

Repair shop was to replace the cracked top screen, 5 days later shop rang me and left a message telling me that the top screen and digitizer screen were glued together therefore both would have to be replaced - 7 days later I went to collect my daughter's ipod touch from the repair shop and was told that the screen replacement had not only been unsuccessful but that the ipod touch was unavoidably damaged beyond repair - the ipod was less than 12 weeks old and in perfect condition - except from the cracked top screen - when left at the repair shop and now it looked like it had been run over by a double decker bus! The repair shop are adamant that they are not liable and advised me "you could maybe claim on your house insurance". Is it right that such extensive damage was unavoidable?? I am disgusted and angry beyond words.

FWIW many credit cards offer free purchase protection so check with your card company if you bought with a Credit card. You may also have some insurance against damage via your household contents insurance. Worth a try.

Not sure what kind of shop you were using, but there are some really wild ones out there. That is why sites like ifixit provide a great service. I do feel for you and your daughter. Kinda like getting kicked in the gonads. Anyway, I guess you could try your insurance company and see what they come up with. the other thing that I would do, is to disassemble the iPod and see what the damage is. The screen should be replace as one unit, since it is a lot easier. To even try and separate them usually spells trouble. It has the tendency of ruining the LCD and the rest of the screen. You may already have to replace that. Now there is the possibility of broken connectors, tore cables etc.As for further damage, only a good inspection will tell. The repair shop should replace your iPod touch, they took a job on they could no do. I have replaced a few of these my self and it’s very tricky, and the first couple of times I made a few mistakes and then had to buy extra parts out of my own pocket at a loss. There is a very good chance your iPod touch is still fixable and what ever it costs the repair shop should honor.
