System doesn’t turn on after proper Shutdown

Hey guys,

I opened lower case A1278 and wanted to deep clean inside the keyboard because sometimes i found out my keyboard was unresponsive, especially the letter ‘A’ til ‘L’. All i did after i took my keyboard out i poured it with isopropyl 99% and brushed it with new toothbrushes. I let it dry for like a day and i was using a hairdryer as well to make sure all dry. I put all back, turn on in normal way (pressing power button &charger wasn’t connected) the keyboard working just fine.

Problem :

After that, I shutdown the system in normal way, but i can’t turn back on. Looking some information from internet.

SMC reset - not working (the magsafe lamp indicator dosnt change)

Bought new Battery - not working (same problem occurred)

Take off RAM and put it back - still no

Cleaning all part the Logic board with isopropyl 99% and toothbrush - not working (still can not turn on in normal way)

All i need to do to turn on the system is :

open lower case, unplug the battery cord, wait 3 seconds, replug the battery cord, close the lower case, press and hold power button for 10 seconds, keep holding power button and connecting with charger, release when the system is turn on.

Or

Open lower case, unplug the battery cord, open the lid, connect charger, and the system is turn on, connect the battery, when its charging, close the lower case.

If i restart it works just fine, with battery or on charging, but when i shutdown i need to do all step above.

want to try starting with power pads, but i dont know how to do it.

Where is the problem ? What is broken ?

It might be an SMC related issue, possibly something got damaged during logic board removal or you damaged the keyboard for good and that’s shorting something and preventing regular functioning. Startup pads on your model are right next to the keyboard connector, be careful not to damage any surrounding components in the process. Try unplugging the keyboard and use the startup pads to see if it’s a keyboard or a logic board issue.

You can find here pics with startup pads in your model: https://beetstech.com/blog/where-are-mac...

Thank you for your answer @arbaman , i can turn on the system with power pads. I followed the link you gave.

And the result : Does it means that i have the keyboard issue ? And my logic board seems okay ?

If its keyboard problem, why can i still turn on the system by holding power button for 10 sec and plug the charger ? Thank you.

@tenyom Since the board starts up correctly with pads I would give a try to a keyboard replacement, seems to me the most reasonable approach at this stage. What you are doing is forcing the system in SMC bypass, nothing to do with a regular power button pressing.
