How do I know if the ssd and new RAM is working?

When I check About This MAC I still see the old information. Is there a place where I can see the new levels of RAM and the SSD I installed? Also the computer won’t boot unless I have the external drive attached - which has the copy of my old hard drive . What do I need to do to get the computer to boot up internally?

The information within the About this Mac should be correct. I’ve never seen if not reflecting whats installed.

You can also look at your System Report Memory & SATA/SATA Express sections after clicking on the button in the About this Mac panel. What do you see there?

As far as why your new SSD is not booting up did you format and install the MacOS on it? Did you alter the startup drive setting in the preferences?

You may need to reset the NVRAM

Resetting NVRAM

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R.
  3. Turn on your Mac.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
  5. Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
